Featured on PDR in the collection Theresa Babb’s Photographs of Friendship (ca. 1898) Camden, Maine is one of two places on the East Coast “where the mountains meet the sea”, writes Barbara F. Dyer, a local historian. Photographing its harbor and hills at the turn of the twentieth century, Theresa Babb (1868–1948) recorded both the intimacies of social life and her hometown’s industrial and seafaring traditions. What stands out most about Babb’s images is how they let us glimpse into a personal world of female friendship, captured in such a way that seems both timeless and strikingly modern.

Hello.

Cure for Pancakes is where I write about home renovation, gardening, music, queer life, unapologetically liberal politics, women’s basketball, animals, terrible ’70s and ’80s schlock horror films, and whatever else has lodged itself in my brain that week.

The name comes from an old Onion article and has nothing to do with pancakes, cures or any coordinated campaign against breakfast. It has amused me for years. I see no reason to stop now.

I plan to blog about things I care about, things I’m trying to improve and things I have opinions about whether anyone requested them or not. My spouse, CJ, may occasionally appear as a guest columnist, presumably when she has findings the public can no longer be protected from.
